Elinizdeki kitap, binlerce yıldır halkların, uygarlıkların ve imparatorlukların hayat alanı, geçiş bölgesi ve çatışma alanı olan Kafkasya'nın dört yüzyıla yakın bir dönemine ışık tutmayı amaçlamaktadır. Kafkasya için mücadele eden devletlerin, yerel hükümdarlar, padişahlar, şahlar ve çarlar ile onların vezirleri, hanları, generalleri, bürokratları ve askerlerinin mücadelelerini, politikalarını, faaliyet ve uygulamalarını, bunun yanında Kafkasya halklarının yaşadıkları zorlukları, acıları, kırımları ve var olma mücadelesini gün yüzüne taşımayı hedeflemektedir. Kitapta dört yüzyıllık bir dönemde Kafkasya'nın siyasî ve askerî tarihini okuma imkânı bulacaksınız. 
 
Kitapta, Kafkas halklarının yeme-içme ve giyeceklerinden, evleri, ev eşyaları ve silahlarına, eğlence ve törenlerinden, cami ve kiliseler etrafında yaşanan etkinliklere, toprağı ekip biçmelerinden, köy pazarlarına kadar günlük hayatlarının birbirinden farklı motiflerine daha geniş bir bakış açısıyla yaklaşıldı. Kır ve şehir hayatı, tarım, zanaat, ticaret, Karadeniz ve Hazar Denizi'nde yapılan denizcilik, köle ticareti gibi hiç bilinmeyen ya da az bilinen konular daha detaylı incelenmeye gayret edildi. Soylular, savaşçılar, din adamları, tüccar ve zanaatkârlar, köylüler ve köleler ile uzak diyarlardan gelerek Kafkasya'da görev yapan Osmanlı, İran ve Rusya İmparatorluklarının memur ve askerlerinin ilginç ve tamamiyle hayata dair olan mücadelelerinin altı ayrıntılı bir şekilde çizilmeye çalışıldı.
