Bu isimden de anlaşılacağı gibi, Kafkasya'da "Yispevun" adıyla bilinen ve  dünya literatüründeki  adı "Dolmen" olan bu yapılar, ani bastıran yağışlarda ıslanmaktan kurtulmak, yağış kesildikten sonra kuru bir şekilde dışarıya tekrar çıkabilmek,avcılar veya çobanlar tarafından sürekli yanında taşıması zor gıda türü şeyleri gerek  olumsuz  hava şartlarından, gerekse yabani hayvanlardan  korumak   amacıyla Neolitik çağlarda yaşayan atalarımız tarafından tasarlanmıştır.
